MEET CUTE – HELENA HUNTING

**Spoilers Ahead, Read On With Caution**

Another little present from my week at Little, Brown Book Group that I’m very grateful for, because again, it’s brilliant. Helena Hunting is a new author to me, and now having read two of her books, the other being THE GOOD LUCK CHARM, I’m obsessed.

A total disaster? Or the start of something special?

Kailyn Flowers was always calm and controlled – until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. In seconds, she became a mortifying fangirl and oddly enough, he didn’t run away. Instead, their meet cute led to something she never expected: a friendship. Of course, she never expectedmeet cute.jpg him to betray her, either . . . Eight years later, Dax needs Kailyn’s help. Years of anger towards him haven’t exactly left Kailyn inclined to oblige, but she also isn’t heartless enough to turn him down. She vows to be friendly, but soon their ‘friendly’ meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him?

One of my favourite things about MEET CUTE is the seamless flow of the plot. It never feels rushed or overdone, and definitely not fake, you believe it completely as it unfolds. It is believable and honest as a rom com goes. The struggle seems real and so you can feel the panic between Kailyn, Daxton and Emme as the custody case looms. You feel an instant dislike for Aunt Linda as something feels skeezy and off about her, and every time you see her you do actually feel a physical level of unease and discomfort.

“I think it’s interesting that you have a thing for the teenage version of me but you’re not all that fond of the real, adult version.”

I enjoy the way that the book is written in the duel perspectives as it really gives us an eye opening view of the entire plot through both their eyes. They’re both going through similar things/feelings but totally unaware of it. Daxton and Kailyn both remember their college years together very differently, and that’s what’s so interesting; watching their views unfold and intertwine.

Getting to see the slow but steady progression of Emme’s character throughout the book, and I’m glad with how everything turned out. Her relationship with Kailyn is adorable once she becomes her conservator during the custody suit, and it’s cool to see their relationship outside of Daxton.

Seeing things from Daxton’s POV is also very encouraging as the reader as we get to learn about how he had feelings and a fascination for Kailyn in college, and that it quickly resurfaces again once they reacquaint.

All in all this is a fantastic book and the perfect thing to read whilst we have this semi-decent weather in the UK.
